María Needs Urgent Treatment to Survive — Please Help

Dagne Brito is organizing this fundraiser.
Two years ago, my grandmother María was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Since then, our family has done everything we possibly could to support her treatment. We cut our own expenses to the minimum and sent her everything we could, and my uncle has worked tirelessly to help pay for her chemotherapy, food, transportation, and medical needs.
Through everything, she never lost her faith or her strength, and she kept fighting.
Up until March 12th 2026, she was still walking, talking, laughing, and continuing her life and treatments as usual. She was herself — present, happy, and strong.
Then, on March 13, everything changed.
She suffered a sudden and severe relapse caused by fluid building up in her body and reaching her lungs. She was hospitalized and received urgent care, but we were unable to afford continuing that level of treatment, and she was sent back home a few days ago with only limited medication.
Since then, she has been completely bedridden.
Right now, her condition is critical. In addition to advanced ovarian cancer, she is now dealing with severe fluid retention and signs of liver and kidney failure. She can no longer walk, eat properly on her own, drink enough, or move without help.
During her hospitalization, doctors warned us that if her condition continues to worsen at the current rate, her life is in immediate danger without urgent treatment.
With urgent medical care, she has a real chance to stabilize and improve, and return to a more stable condition as she was before March 13.
This is why we are asking for help now.
The most urgent need is immediate specialist treatment and hospital stabilization to address the life-threatening complications she developed after this relapse. If we cannot act quickly, we may lose her.
The funds raised will go first toward:
* urgent specialist evaluations
* hospital care and stabilization
* treatment for fluid retention and organ complications
* critical medications like albumin injections
* transport, exams, and emergency medical expenses
One of the urgent medications she needs is albumin. She needs 8 injections, and each one costs $135, for a total of $1,080. Specialist visits cost around $70–$80 each, and she will need several, in addition to all the urgent hospital care costs that are difficult for us to estimate and far beyond what we can afford.
If we are able to stabilize her, she will still need continued support afterward as she recovers, including nursing care, medication, supplies, a special diet, and an anti-bedsore mattress. Right now, the only person caring for her is her 78-year-old sister, who has a broken arm and cannot do this alone.
For two years, we have carried this as a family, but this sudden crisis has pushed us beyond our limits.
We are unable to afford the urgent care that could save her life.
My grandmother is a strong, loving, hardworking woman. We have spoken every single day for years without missing a single day. Even just days before this happened, she was laughing, talking, and absolutely full of life.
Her only dream was to meet my one-year-old son in person — and to give me one more hug.
If you can donate, no matter how small the amount, it will go directly toward the urgent medical care that could save her life. If you cannot donate, please share this fundraiser. That alone could help us reach someone who can.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving her a chance.
